WINNER: Preventx & Chelsea And Westminster Hospital FT: Redesigning Online Postal Self-Sampling Kits To Reduce Single-Use Plastic By More Than 80 Per Cent And Save 4.5 Tonnes Of Plastic Waste A Year

Preventx partners with Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust to deliver Sexual Health London, the largest publicly funded remote sexual health testing programme in the world. Around 50,000 online postal self-sampling kits are dispatched each month, traditionally relying heavily on single-use plastic. Redesigning the kits delivered a dramatic reduction in plastic of more than 80 per cent, while maintaining quality, high return rates and UN3373 compliance. This simple redesign is saving 4.5 tonnes of plastic a year in London and more than 10 tonnes a year across the UK, reducing plastic waste and carbon emissions, and supporting the NHS journey towards net zero.
