Covid-19 necessitated huge reductions in outpatient activity, resulting in growing backlogs with no way to manage risk of those waiting. Working with the diabetes team, the organisers defined and coded clinical rules which allow them to objectively identify patients who may be suffering harm. They have expedited appointments for more than 120 high risk patients based on their pathology tests. These patients are disproportionately from ethnic minorities and areas of high deprivation. Clinical evaluation indicates that harm was prevented in ~40 per cent of cases. This entry demonstrates fast-paced digital innovation with real world impact and the methodology has wide utility across specialties.
