WINNER: Cheshire and Merseyside ICS and C2-Ai: Globally Unique AI-Backed System Supporting Prioritisation Based on Clinical Risk, Reducing Emergency Admissions by 8 Per Cent and saving 125 Bed Days Per 1,000 Patients

The Cheshire and Merseyside PTL Risk Stratification model, commissioned by NHS England, risk stratifies the elective surgical waiting list based on clinical need and urgency and incorporates the impacts of social determinants of health. NHSE’s evaluation is that there was a more than 8 per cent reduction in emergency admissions, saving more than 125 bed days per 1,000 patients and £9 per patient per triage. This would save £2bn+ for the NHS and free up significant amounts of surgeon time toward operative care. The tool has been deployed across multiple integrated care systems and trusts.
