Alan Campbell won Tynemouth after challenging the Tories over leaflets suggesting accident and emergency and other services at North Tyneside General Hospital could be cut if Labour won.
Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said a new specialist emergency care hospital was on the way but that North Tyneside would “continue to be a busy general hospital”.
