Cambridge University Hospitals: CUH Virtual Ward at Home, a Whole Hospital Approach

The CUH Virtual Ward at home has been delivering patient care for more than a year, on-boarding more than 1,000 patients. The ward currently provides stepdown care for patients who otherwise would be in hospital, reducing their overall length of stay. This year the project has expanded beyond the remit of delivering care to frailty, heart failure and respiratory patients, by building the service using remote digital technology to enable 23 specialties across the organisation to use it. More than 4,000 bed-saving days have been delivered for the trust, with a 97 per cent positive patient experience result.
