Humber NHS Teaching Foundation Trust and Owl Therapy Centre: Hybrid Neurodiversity Assessments

In 2021, the trust was among NHS organisations that experienced a surge in referrals for neurodevelopmental assessments. This demand created a four-and-a-half-year waiting list. In addition, the service was struggling to retain and recruit staff with the necessary skills and knowledge. A new radical way of working was needed. Working in partnership with parents and the independent sector the project developed a unique digital diagnostic pathway enabling paediatric autism assessments to be completed within their communities, supported by the NHS but with the speed and resources of the independent sector.
