An Insight-Driven Approach to Maximising Ccovid-19 Vaccine Uptake Among Minority Ethnic and Non-English Speaking Communities

Analysis of public health intelligence at the start of the covid vaccination programme demonstrated that people from minority ethnic communities faced a triple threat of being more likely to catch coronavirus, becoming more seriously ill, and being less likely to have the vaccine. Taking a multi-disciplined, cross-system approach, and working within communities as equal partners at a grass roots level across BNSSG has been transformative in building trust and beginning to overcome some of the deeply held, legitimate concerns held by minority ethnic communities.

The judges felt this was a simple but effective inspirational project. The team highlighted embedded health inequalities and brought them to the surface so that these could be addressed by rest of NHS – a real system approach.
