HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2022: NHS Safeguarding Award

The Strategic Housing Partnership in Gloucestershire funded a Homeless Specialist Nurse role in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital’s emergency department, leading to a more holistic pathway for homeless ED attenders to access accommodation direct from the ED. This improved process, along with dedicated support roles, has improved the standard of care experienced by homeless patients from multiple vulnerable groups, and reduced frequent and future attendances.

The judges felt this project was a clear winner with fantastic outcomes and impact. The presenters excellently evidenced the patient experience, improving patient quality and significant cost savings within health.
