HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2023: Primary Care Initiative of the Year

In May 2021 Thurrock CCG commissioned Inclusion to start providing an inaugural talking therapies service aimed at the growing number of people falling into a treatment gap between Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) and secondary care psychology services. The new PTS team now provides evidence-based psychological therapies spanning people experiencing recurring episodes of depression, psychosis bipolar, personality disorders and eating disorders.

Actively contributing to research and the evidence base for this historically underserved patient population, the PTS has transformed local patient safety through increased mental health treatment access and efficacy, simultaneously removing strain on primary and secondary care services. The judges found the submission comprehensive and commendable, with a clear focus on patient needs and involvement.
