Recent guidance from NHS England asks commissioners to regard nutrition and hydration as a priority. It cites National Institute for Health and Care Excellence estimates that the identification and treatment of malnutrition has the third highest potential to deliver cost savings to the NHS (read the guidance here).
In association with Nutricia Advanced Medical Nutrition, HSJ is running a free webinar to explore the role nutrition could play in the management of long term conditions.
It will bring together a small panel of experts who will discuss why nutrition is often neglected in the treatment of chronic illness, how this neglect could be reversed, and what benefits might be seen as a result.
Confirmed to speak are Kirstine Farrer, head of innovation and research, Salford Clinical Commissioning Group and consultant dietitian, Salford Royal Foundation Trust; Katherine Murphy, president of The Patients Association; and Dr David Paynton, national clinical lead of the Royal College of General Practitioners Centre for Commissioning.
