WINNER: LloydsPharmacy Healthcare Centre: LloydsPharmacy Clinical Homecare
Redesigning how patients receive oncology drugs with many routine treatments moved to a centre run by LloydsPharmacy has helped Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Foundation Trust improve services and cope with increasing demand for outpatient appointments.
The trust formed a partnership with LloydsPharmacy and LloydsPharmacy Clinical Homecare to deliver infusion and subcutaneous injection appointments in a different setting in the community. The LLoydsPharmacy Healthcare Centre not only administers the medicines, but they are supplied, compounded and dispensed as well. Nurses on site can also carry out blood tests.
The approach has now spread to five other trusts but, in addition to the bespoke site, LPCH is running mobile infusion units in partnership with Tenovus Trading and using community pharmacies. There is also potential for using the model for other services such as intravenous antibiotic therapy.
