Labour MP Gordon Prentice has lost his Pendle seat to the Conservatives.

He was defeated by Conservative candidate Andrew Stephenson, who polled almost 4,000 more votes.

Mr Prentice was the driving force behind a campaign to return A&E services to Burnley General Hospital in Lancashire. They were axed in 2007 when it was rebranded as an urgent care centre.

Calls for A&E services to be returned to Burnley General Hospital were backed by shadow health secretary Andrew Lansley in March in a letter to NHS North West chief executive Mike Farrar.
