Regulation will actually benefit good managers (who are the majority anyway), by making it clear to colleagues and the public that like any other professional cadre in the NHS, being a senior NHS manager requires specialised qualifications, training and skills.

The problem is that this will push already-high senior management salaries even higher. Regulation will further reduce supply (by placing additional barriers to entry for outsiders), and force employers to compete even more fiercely for experienced candidates. Interim rates for experienced NHS Managers are already sky-high thanks to a shortfall in supply (not that I'm complaining!), and this can only drive rates even higher...
