The topic on positive action for developing NHS leaders has brought out a lot of inhibitions and prejudice that exists in the NHS that is constantly ignored.

Why should it be all right to have positive efforts to develop leaders through the various programmes e.g. Aspiring CEOs, Directors and whatever programmes and we just do not wait for these people to emerge out of the system? The reason is that it has been found that all aspiring people need support to manage the leadership pathway.

For all those people that cannot see the need for positive action, count on five fingers the people you have actively supported in equal measure to progress their career and how many of these are from minority groups.

I think then you will have your answer on whether to have positive action. To those that can identify sufficient minority people among your five, was that not positive action at play?
