All very interesting: but since it is already being done, it shows it could have been done without Andrew Lansley's Bill fragmenting the whole of the NHS and dumping all kinds of responsibilities onto local GPs that they do not have the time, energy or expertise to deal with.
This is actually an argument against the need for the BIll at all.
Nobody is opposed to GPs taking initiatives like this, especially when they are keeping the work within the NHS rather than handing over to some dodgy private sector "qualified provider".
So why can't Lansley take Labour's offer, drop the Bill and work to maximise useful input from GPs?
