@TUC1: not quite sure what you mean. You mean admissions for respiratory conditions like flu are normally high at this time of year? That's true but last year's peak was in April which certainly isn't normal. It would certainly be true to say that there is a balance between people's behaviour (lockdown) and how fast each variant is spreading location-wise. I think it would be fair to say that winter exacerbates the problem because people spend a lot more time inside sharing the same air and their immune systems tend to be weaker in the winter. The problem with SARS2 is that it is bad enough at the best of times so winter makes it so much worse. The good news is that with the vaccine, the people that have recovered and the weather together mean that come May things should be looking a lot more positive although I think they're right and people will need to be planning very carefully moving into next winter and dealing with the inevitable new mutations.
