Yes, all these "clever" McKinsey people really shook up the NHS, in the metaphorical manner of grabbing someone by the ankles, holding them upside down so all their money falls out of their pockets, running off with it and dropping the person on their head and saying the experience has improved cerebral blood-flow.
In my patch, they came in ( 3 consultants at £!K/day each), carried out a simple time and motion study that wouldn't have taxed a first year economics undergraduate and produced a report (after about 4 months) which was simply a regurgitation of comments made by the health authority staff during interviews with them.
Chasing FT status has resulted in organisations forgetting about what really matters to the public we serve and chasing the financial and performance-efficiency dragon. Those still in love with the FT principle have obviously chosen to ignore the whole Mid-staffs nightmare and the fact that a lot of other organisations were sailing towards the same rocks ; the fact that they didn't crash on them was pure luck, not judgement.
