Today, NHS Trusts can provide acute & community care, including services like Psychological Therapies. So, let them offer all physical & mental healthcare, primary care, community care & social services too, if necessary, then via mergers or the acquisition of services.

Further, if Acute Trusts can merge & if CCG's can merge then why not let Acute Trusts & CCG's merge (be acquired) too?

If they had this freedom, then at some point we'd see the demise of the "internal market" in the pursuit of cost reduction, efficiency, & greater effectiveness via natural selection across local health economies.

Quickly, we'd see a lot of administration removed & the money moved up stream to serve patients & service users directly. Rapid optimisation of funds could be achieved, particularly if NHS funding & the sustainability of social services remain constrained.
