One of the regular complaints from nursing staff is the amount of time they feel they waste on paperwork. I see several reasons for this, including that staff are frequently not trained well enough to understand the clinical benefits of what they see as box ticking.
More pertinent to issues of savings there is a persistent trend towards cutting administration and bureaucratic staffing and support which doesn't remove the need for those staff. So nursing staff are dragged away from patients to do paperwork that a lower banded admin should do far more efficiently. It's all very well the politicians saying we've employed X more nurses but if those nurses are not actually nursing it is counterproductive.
