The NHS spends far less of it's budget on on management than many other organisations - despite being far more complciated to run than many commercial conglomerates.

The reality is that the NHS isn't overmanaged - it's actually undermanaged and poorly managed. As an NHS manager, I all too often hear fellow managers (including the new commissioners) say "we've always done it this way" or displaying a complete lack of basic management experience and skills.

The NHS needs more and better managers.
