If we look at the wider societal issues which we always need to consider as they directly affect the NHS, if this Conservative 8 billion will now be found no matter the state of the economy which other public services do we want slashed to pay for it?
Most within these "unprotected" departments have had years of pay restraint and have years more to look forward to.
Their delivery is being cut to dangerous levels even in risk critical services such as the other blue light services.
Many local authority support groups are being closed and more and more of the most vulnerable in our society will start to slip through the net.
And where will they fall?
At the door of the NHS, adding to the ever increasing demand.
As for the NHS efficiency savings £22 billion? Really?
The protection of the NHS will be nothing more than words and smoke and mirrors. The re-jigging and redistribution of funds and budgets is already been going on.
My prediction is maybe, just maybe the £8 billion will be given but the cuts will happen and it will be blamed on the NHS and those who work within it not accepting the downgrading of services and their terms and conditions of employment and their failure to deliver the £22 billion of efficiency savings?
