Almost three million people are economically inactive, costing the NHS £18bn per year. This is why the health secretary is implementing three shifts for health care:

The link between our nation’s health and our nation’s sustainable prosperity is clear. Long-term sickness keeps 2.8 million 16-64 year olds economically inactive. People with more than one health condition are twice as likely to take sick days and are less productive. Health inequalities are a major contributor to our lower growth, lower productivity, and weaker labour markets. Estimates from Boston Consulting Group show improved population health could boost the UK’s GDP by between £109-177bn by the 2030s.
