James Paget University Hospitals Foundation Trust: Kissing Goodbye Sepsis
The team undertook initiatives to enable early identification and treatment of sepsis which included designing a new sepsis pathway, creating a sepsis recognition box and providing prompt cards and sepsis badges to staff.
The number of patients receiving antibiotics within one hour increased to 87 per cent and there was a decrease in mortality rate.
The trust also held two sepsis awareness weeks to share its progress and achievements.
The judges felt that this has got the “wow” factor. They have engaged their patients by raising awareness and co-produced solutions with staff to create a programme which has the potential to have a “massive” sustained impact on patient safety.
