WINNER: London North West University Healthcare Trust and Infinity Health: ePortering: Saving over 10,000 hours per year
More than 100,000 requests for porters to move patients are generated each year in the trust’s emergency department. Traditionally, staff had to handwrite requests at a fixed location and nearly two out of five requests were later cancelled.
The use of Infinity Health’s technology means staff don’t need to leave their posts to request a patient is moved, porters have additional information such as who requested the transfer, and urgent moves – such as for diagnostic tests – can be prioritised.
Cancellations have reduced by 80 per cent with a saving of six minutes on each request – 10,000 hours a year, equivalent to five full time posts.
