Reducing Inequality Through Creative School And Community-Based Interventions
Addressing entrenched health inequalities requires a creative, bold and multipronged approach, one which catalyses change among multiple groups simultaneously, say organisers. Working together and co-producing with their communities, Ladywood and Perry Barr Locality Partnership and new community health collaborative Flourish have created a raft of programmes that empower young people and families; support a diverse workforce; create culturally sensitive healthcare practitioners; and build trust between communities and health institutions. Projects connecting schools and community organisations with GPs, hospitals, public health and social care range from introducing a new type of community research-based work experience to supporting global majority women with language-specific doulas. This is a programme with ambitious reach, achieved through thoughtful delivery, said organisers.
