Improving the Physical Health Of People With A Severe Mental Illness In Coventry And Warwickshire - A Whole-Systems Approach

Coventry and Warwickshire has created a system-wide integrated offer which encompasses delivery of annual physical health checks and wraparound support for people with Serious Mental Illness with the aim of reducing the 15-20-year mortality gap for people with SMI due to preventable and treatable physical health conditions. Through successful partnership working across a number of organisations and with Experts by Experience, Coventry and Warwickshire have consistently increased the percentage of people on the SMI register receiving physical health checks from 10.4 per cent in Q1 2021-22 to 67.8 per cent in Q4 2022-23 – over and above the target of 66.37 per cent. The judging panel were impressed by turnaround achieved here, and the passion of the team involved.
