Single Point of Access
Organisers have established a single point of access, hosted by Moorfields Eye Hospital, through which community optometrists can send referrals directly rather than via GPs. Referrals are triaged and routed to the patient’s preferred hospital for sub-specialty triage, management and treatment. The service enhances the system by delivering education, analytics, clinical services and implementing a fully digital pathway.
The SPoA represents a true collaboration between hospitals, community optometrists, and the integrated care system, say organisers. It has increased patient safety, optimised utilisation of secondary care capacity, reduced patient journey time, enhanced educational provision, and improved communication between primary and secondary care.
