Improving the Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing of Children and Young People Across Fleetwood
Partnered by
Clinicians, teachers and third sector organisations in the community were noticing and reporting a significant increase in children’s mental health issues post covid, with little or no resources in the community to support the demand.
The aim of the health inclusion approach was to improve access to children’s mental health support across all systems, with a framework of delivery designed by the community. Success is measured by numbers of children accessing support, a reduction in CAMHS referrals and waiting times, children being placed on the correct pathway, a reduction in accident and emergency admissions and the network feeling supported.
After listening to the community to gather data, a report was shared widely across the community, with feedback sought not only on the content but on the numerous suggested interventions.
Life-changing results were achieved for the young people such as identifying abuse within the home and, following safeguarding procedures, the outcome resulted in the child being removed to a place of safety. A safe place was offered to discuss the screening results – the school was not aware of concerns at home before the review.
