The Rotherham Care Homes Hydration Project

Partnered byMcLaughlin Harvey RGB Logo 1-01_0

Collaborating with a large multidisciplinary team, The Rotherham Medicines Management Team created a hydration training programme for care home staff after it was discovered that care home residents were 10 times more likely to be dehydrated than residents from their own homes, showing the need for training and support.

The team advised on dehydration and the associated problems, with particular emphasis on UTIs to combat antimicrobial resistance. They informed and motivated staff, worked closely with the care homes, provided regular support, monitored outcomes and saw huge improvements.
