Green Operating Day
Partnered by
North Bristol Trust Neurosurgical theatres pitched and delivered a Green Operating Day in an ambitious attempt to achieve net zero carbon emissions across a 12-hour operative day, with three theatres and 10 neurosurgical procedures. The project successfully demonstrated the feasibility of carbon footprint reduction within neurosurgical theatres, which was not associated with increases in operative duration or adverse patient outcomes. The project shows an increase in theatre productivity and staff pride in their workplace. This study advocates for environmentally conscious decision making in neurosurgical procedures.
