Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals FT: Daisy Team - Complex Midwifery Care
The Daisy Team based in the Wigan borough is a midwifery team partly commissioned by the local authority to improve outcomes for the most complex pregnant clients and their families. The team consists of specialist midwives, midwifery support workers and an administrator. Families are offered 1:1 intense midwifery support by a named midwife and maternity support worker throughout their pregnancy journey and up to six weeks following the birth of their baby. The midwife “case loads” the family using a trauma-informed approach to care and the relationship is built and developed on trust, transparency, compassion and a non-judgemental approach. The judges were genuinely impressed by this outstanding project, which clearly demonstrated significant improvements, particularly to the benefit of high-risk groups. The initiative’s commitment to providing continuity of care exemplified a commendable level of dedication, said the judges.
