Bruin Biometrics: SEM Scanner: Early Detection of Pressure Ulcers Transforms Care and Releases Productivity at NHS Isle of Wight

Bruin Biometrics, a pioneer in the development of biosensor based devices, recently launched in the EU the SEM Scanner for early detection and prevention of pressure ulcers.

Over the last 18 months, BBI has been working with hospitals across the UK, Ireland, Spain and Canada to incorporate this technology, adapted from NASA’s Mars Lander, into a large scale bedsore reduction programme leveraging existing guidelines (EPUAP) and standards of care.

The results – over half of the 13 participating hospitals were able to eliminate the occurrence of new bedsores completely; an additional three hospitals achieved reductions ranging from 11 per cent to 90 per cent.

The judges said that the winners have demonstrated a clear safety improvement project, which is grounded in evidence and uses real time data. It is a genuine partnership with enthusiastic leadership that focuses on their patients.

Highly commended was Linet.
