Taunton and Somerset Foundation Trust: Patient Safety in Maternity and Midwifery Services
National, regional and local drivers defined our focus for improvement. Workshops to engage staff detailed our vision for improvement. High level aims included reducing stillbirths, recognition of the deteriorating woman and development of a workforce fit for the future.
Significant achievements to date include reduction of stillbirths, improved sepsis management, improved uptake of flu vaccination, an award winning maternity apprentice scheme and innovative marketable tools to help smokers to quit. We have won an MBRRACE poster award, presented at the 2017 MBRRACE launch and other national conferences. We have successfully secured external funding, including NHS England funding as an early adopter site for maternity transformation.
The judges felt this demonstrated a safety revolution. It was a unanimous decision to award this outstanding project as the winner as it demonstrated continuous learning and improvement.
