Three of the most influential people in patient safety in the UK have been confirmed to speak at the HSJ Patient Safety Congress this year.
National NHS England safety director Aidan Fowler will revisit the aims of the patient safety strategy three years after its launch, looking at progress through the pandemic period, at the event on 15-16 September in Manchester Central. Dr Fowler has also worked as a deputy chief medical officer in government during the covid pandemic.
Henrietta Hughes, newly appointed as the first patient safety commissioner at the Department of Health and Social Care, will reveal her immediate priorities for the new role.
And Commons health and social care committee chair Jeremy Hunt, the former secretary of state turned patient safety campaigner, will share his views on how reducing avoidable deaths can be done while saving money, reducing backlogs and improving working conditions.
Others due to speak include former chief inspector of hospitals Ted Baker; NHSE deputy chief nursing officer for improvement Charlotte McArdle; and Health Foundation chief executive Jennifer Dixon.
